Tuk Tuk, Samosir Island, Indonesia
We reached a place called Tuk Tuk a couple of days ago and its a luxury, because we have a hot shower in our room!! The first hot shower we have had since leaving England. Tuk Tuk is on the island in the middle of the crater lake, and we are 900m above sea level. It is quite cool here so getting a hot shower boosted our spirits! Today we hired mountain bikes and explored the island, visiting villages and joining in with the traditional dancing! It has been an exhausting day as we have ridden 32km and then walked another 5km just to eat our evening meal. At least we’re getting fit and losing weight. Yesterday Mike went to the doctors because his elbow was still swollen after 3 weeks. They inserted a needle and squeezed out clear liquid. After some local anaesthetic, they used a scalpel to cut a deep 1cm slit to try and ease out the rest of the fluid. Seeing this made me feel lightheaded and faint so I had to go outside to sit down before I fell down. I couldn’t even focus on a blade of grass and thought I would vomit. In my head I kept seeing the force used to cut the hole and all Mikes blood gushing out. Most of the liquid was drained out and the swelling reduced. The doctors stuck some gause coated with antiseptic into the cut and patched him up.
