Dunedin, New Zealand
In north Dunedin about 6km from the centre of town is Baldwin Street. We parked up at the bottom of the street and hiked to the top. Why? Because it is listed in the ‘Guiness Book of Records’ as the steepest street in the world. It has houses on both sides all the way to the top, and also has steps to help you up. Funniest was when we saw an old car trying to make it up. It hadn’t quite picked up enough speed and whilst trying to change down gear the car started rolling backwards! We spent the remainder of the day visiting the botanical gardens – home to some very friendly ducks that step over you just to get your bread! Also, Mike had 2 pigeons, one on each shoulder, eating out of his hands. We also drove to Signal Hill Lookout. Unfortunately, the clouds were very low and we could not see a thing.
