Lake Tekapo, New Zealand
Lake Tekapo is a huge lake with clear blue water, 710m above sea level, with snow covered mountains all around it. It is known for having the clearest air in the southern hemisphere, and the nearby Mt. John has an astronomical observatory on it for this reason. Our walk followed the lake and then rose giving us nice views of the McKenzie basin and the Southern Alps. It was only when we got back that we found out it was a 10km walk – not too bad for a day of excersize!!!
