Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove, New Zealand

Hot Water Beach is caused by a hot spring that lies directly under the beach. At low tide, we dug out a shallow pool and enjoyed our own private mini hot-spa!!! Some areas were so hot, people were scalding their feet as they walked over it. Later we walked a 1hr loop track that led to Cathedral Cove. Here the rock originates from lava and ash – the ash has worn away faster than the lava and it has left a massive cathedral shaped opening, connecting two beaches.
